We need to make sure that overfishing, climate change, and pollution are not depleting the ocean of its fish by collecting better data and monitoring our oceans. Millions of people rely on fishing to make a living, and even more of us rely on the nutrition that eating fish and seafood provides.

We need to change both what we put into our oceans and what we take out. Making our global fishing industry sustainable and tackling pollution would mean the sea continues to provide fish for years to come.

"It is a curious situation that the sea, from which life first arose should now be threatened by the activities of one form of that life. But the sea, though changed in a sinister way, will continue to exist; the threat is rather to life itself."

Data4SDGs Toolbox

Earth Observation Data to Support the SDGs

Earth observations can track global change in high resolution and in real time, and their use in SDG monitoring and decision-making is essential in capturing the sustainability of developments underpinning the SDG framework. This Data4SDGs Toolbox module explores how Earth observations can be used for action and data-driven decision-making across government, and to support targeted development programmes.
