Open Data Watch is an international, non-profit, non-governmental organization that works at the junction of open data and official statistics, monitoring open data policies, measuring their success and impact, sharing knowledge, building partnerships, and offering strategic advice and practical assistance to national governments, international organizations, and other NGOs.
The Open Data Charter is a collaboration between governments and experts working to open up data. The aspiration was that data should be open by default, timely and interoperable. More than 70 governments and organisations have joined the movement.

Supporting countries in the collection, analysis and dissemination of census data for development is a critical part of UNFPA's mandate. UNFPA plays key roles in coordinating technical and financial assistance for censuses -- support can include resource mobilization, the provision of chief technical advisers, training in technical communication and advocacy, operating publicity campaigns, as well as developing census budgets, road maps, and instruments, such as questionnaires and manuals.
